Hugh Neutron
November 22, 2008
Hugh, full name Hubert Beaumont Neutron, is Jimmy’s dad. Hugh Beaumont is a reference to the 1950′s and 1960′s show Leave It To Beaver where Beaumont played a patient, wise and loving father to Wally and Beaver. Hugh can be quite childish at times and seems to have no clue that Jimmy is really a genius. He loves eggs with toast (not plain bread) and hates it whenever Jimmy hijacks another toaster to make a gadget, leaving him toast-less. Hugh calls Judy many pet names, the most frequent being “Butterbiscuit” and “Sugarbooger”. He loves pie, especially Judy’s pies, and even made up a holiday about them, Pule, the combination of Yule and pie.
Hugh’s relatives all look like him and are very dim-witted with the exception of baby Eddie, who is an evil genius. It’s possible Jimmy gets his intellect from the rare genius Neutron gene, but it is more likely Jimmy gets his brains from his mom. Hugh is a good father and whenever Jimmy is down, Hugh tries to raise his spirits by relating some strange occurrence from his own childhood. When Jimmy was banned from the Lindbergh science fair for always winning, Hugh tells Jimmy he was told burping the period table of the elements wasn’t considered a science project.
Hugh loves ducks and collects duck decoys of all types. He spends much of his free time polishing, painting and restoring them. He also displays them around the house. Hugh is a car salesman but hardly seems to ever go to work. When Jimmy informs his friends he will be moving to Dairyville because of his dad’s job, Sheen yells “your dad has a job?”!
Hugh has his own fan following and saves the day on occasion at the oddest times with the oddest information. In the TV movie You Bet Your Life Form, a parody of Survivor starring Tim Allen’s voice as the host, Hugh busies himself watching a galactic soap opera on the new satellite TV channels that pop up when Jimmy and friends are transported to the game show planet through Jimmy’s intergalactic portal. The portal breaks and Judy finally fixes it just in time while Hugh snacks on nachos and continues to watch his soap. Near the end of their game show trials, Jimmy has to answer questions to save his planet from destruction and gets to call one person, anyone, to help him. Hugh accidentally ends up being transported to the game show planet, and it’s a good thing because the questions are about the soap opera Hugh has been glued to throughout the movie. This time, Hugh saves the day and wins a huge amount of respect and admiration from Jimmy. Jimmy learns the lesson that science and math aren’t the only smarts in the universe.
Hugh’s voice is played by Mark DeCarlo.
