We absolutely love The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius! We catch the show on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons Network most every day. We also loved the movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Come in and visit with Jimmy, Goddard, Carl, Sheen, Cindy, Libby, Judy, Hugh, Ms. Fowl and all the other folks in Retroville.

Jimmy Neutron is a brilliant and misunderstood 10-year-old inventor with a lab in his club house in the back yard. His inventions often misfire, so-to-speak, and he ends up in trouble and having to save the day from his own work. Amazingly, his second tries, from brain blasts, which he yells out loud, usually work out not only fine, but heroically.

Jimmy’s full name is James Isaac Neutron, a mash-up of Sir Isaac Newton, the father of classical physics, and physicist and Nobel laureate Sir James Chadwick, who was nicknamed “Jimmy Neutron” for his discovery of the neutron in 1932. Chadwick received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in nuclear physics in 1935. Jimmy’s voice is played by Debi Derryberry.

Jimmy’s robot dog is named Goddard and his two best friends are Carl Wheezer and Sheen Estevez. His biggest rivals at school are Cindy Vortex and her best friend, Libby Folfax. His parents are Judy and Hugh Neutron, and the children’s school teacher is Ms. Fowl. The are many minor characters, some who appear often and others who only appear once in the entire series.

The show has a large number of pop culture, science and historical references that are probably lost on the kids who watch it, but not on many adults. Those of us who were older teens or young adults around 1980 lived right in the middle of many of the references or studied them in school. One such reference is to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. The voice of Professor Finbarr Calamitous is played by Tim Curry, who starred in “Rocky Horror”, and he often mumbles references from the movie under his breathe. Professor Calamitous is Jimmy’s most frequently appearing villain. Another is the name of the school Jimmy and his friends attend, Lindbergh elementary, referring to the famous pilot, Charles Lindbergh.
